Sopharma AD is among the contributors to a program that provides medical examinations to elderly patients from 14 villages of the North-West Region

For a third year in succession elderly patients from 14 villages in North-West Bulgaria were examined free of charge by physicians participanting in a project of Bcause Foundation in partnership with „Do Good – Alexandrovska“ Foundation and „North-West Project“ Foundation.

Within two weeks more than 2200 examinations were made by two cardiologists, three endocrinologists, two psychologists, two neurologists, two orthopedists, three nurses. Three medical students from the Medical University of Sofia, scholarship holders under Ready for Success Program, also took part in these examinations.

The main diseases established for this region were cardiologic – hypertension, heart rate disorders – and for that reason a large number of coronarographies were prescribed. The endocrinology examinations established a large number of diabetic patients, as well as persons suffering from hypoglycemia which was a condition non-typical for this age group. Neurologists found problems with vestibular apparatus, discopathy and radiculitis. A rare neurological disorder of which the patients were not aware was diagnosed in one of the villages.

In some villages psychologists took part for the first time, which proved very useful for the people. The main pathologies observed by the specialists were depressions, insomnia, anxiety. The specialists were of the opinion that psychologists should take part again in future prophylactic campaigns. Most elderly patients were in difficult life situations resulting in depressive conditions. The people were open for discussions and assistance.

Up till now the health professionals provided almost 5000 examinations, which the elderly count not afford for over 20 years. The interest in the examinations was stable and the need and desire for further examinations was stated in already visited villages.
